Sworn translation in Rome: documents with legal validity

Portuguese, Italian, English and Spanish. Translations sworn by a translator registered with the Tribunale di Roma and the Italian Chamber of Commerce — valid directly in the Italian system, with no consular step.

Who signs your translation

Not every translation carries legal weight in Italy. A sworn translation (traduzione giurata or asseverata) only exists when a qualified translator takes legal responsibility for the text and swears it before the competent authority.

  • Tribunale di Roma — listed in the register of technical and specialised professionals.
  • Italian Chamber of Commerce — officially registered in the ruolo periti ed esperti.
  • 15 years living in Italy, inside the system that issues and receives these documents.
  • Over 50,000 documents translated in Portuguese, Italian, English and Spanish.

In practice: the document I sign enters the Italian system directly, with no need for additional consular validation.

When a sworn translation is required

Whenever a document issued in one country must produce legal effects in another. The most frequent cases:

  • Italian citizenship — birth, marriage and death certificates, rectifications, family records.
  • Residence and regularisation — permesso di soggiorno, family reunification, questura procedures.
  • Study — degrees, transcripts and syllabi for enrolment and student visas.
  • Work and profession — recognition of qualifications, regulated professions, proof of experience.
  • Companies and contracts — corporate deeds, powers of attorney, contracts filed with the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Court proceedings — documents for Italian or foreign courts.

The destination changes the translation

A certificate translated for a comune does not follow the same requirements as a degree for a university or a contract for the Chamber of Commerce. The format changes, what must be apostilled beforehand changes, and the authority before which the oath is sworn changes.

That is why the quote is only finalised once I know the receiving authority and the purpose.

How it works

  1. You send legible copies and tell me where the document is going.
  2. I assess language, volume, format and the authority’s requirements.
  3. You receive a fixed quote — price and deadline agreed before any work starts.
  4. I translate and swear the translation before the competent authority, with technical review.
  5. You receive the signed PDF and, when needed, the hard copy by post.

From 2 working days, depending on volume.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need to get started?
A short description of your goal, the receiving authority, and legible copies of the documents you already have.

Do you work with clients outside Italy?
Yes. Everything is handled remotely, by WhatsApp and email, with hard copies posted when required.

How long does it take?
It depends on volume and on the receiving authority. The deadline is stated in the quote, before any work begins.

Which languages do you work with?
Portuguese, Italian, English and Spanish, in all combinations between them.

Do I need to post the original?
Not for the assessment and quote. If the procedure requires the original, I will tell you in advance.

Send your documents for assessment

Tell me what you need to achieve and which authority will receive the document. I reply with the assessment, the deadline and a fixed price.
